Gained confidence in carrying out an environmental audit.

Jeff attended ISO 14001 Lead Auditor training in Leeds,  this was to help with his career development and broaden his skill base. He has now been able to apply for IEMA membership.

What were your training objectives?

To gain a thorough understanding of the audit process and the new 14001; 2015.

What learning did you take from the course?

Understanding of how the standard is applied in a business environment and what the ISO standard requires in order to meet the criteria.

Auditing –  the need for a sufficient amount of clear evidence before coming to a conclusion, aim for a higher level for external auditing.

Demonstration of how to do this within the workplace.

Have you been able to apply anything since the course?

Have since used the skills learnt on this course to confidently carry out an audit on an environmental system within a construction based organisation. I have been able to apply principles learnt and has made my approach more structured and methodical. Also allowed me to cut through to root causes and make practical and realistic recommendations.

What have been the benefits for you and the business?

I will be able to provide a clear idea of the maturity and performance of the system being examined.

Made clear the gold standard and levels of evidence, detail and clauses required.

I attended the course to help progress my career in the future and open up new opportunities.

Very intense but thorough course. Lots of industry experience from the tutor helped to understand the principles.

Have now applied for IEMA membership – this is to help further my career in environmental roles.

How was the tutor?

Mike and Frank – very good. I expected the course to be intense as I had limited experience of external auditing, but I worked hard and applied myself throughout the course. The tutors definitely made me think and therefore I certainly got the best out of the course.

What was the venue like?

Oulton Hall, Leeds – fantastic facilities, staff helpful and they printed some documents I required very quickly with no hassle.

Any advice to delegates?

Ask questions.
